In general, the largest holder that comfortably fits the job will give better stability and a cleaner result.

Indexable insert holders and insert sets

Indexable tooling makes it easy to replace worn cutting edges without regrinding. The range includes holders and insert-compatible solutions in common shank sizes such as 8x8 mm, 10x10 mm, 14x14 mm, 16x16 mm, 20x20 mm and 25x25 mm, as well as replacement inserts for several holder formats.

How to choose the right tooling

Start with your lathe and toolpost dimensions. The shank size of the holder must fit your machine correctly, and the overall setup should provide enough rigidity for the workpiece size and material.

Then consider the operation:

• choose a cut-off blade and holder for parting and grooving work
• choose an inner turning holder for bores and internal surfaces
• choose indexable holders and insert sets for versatile day-to-day turning

Material also matters. Standard inserts suit many general applications, while M20 variants are intended for stainless steel machining. If you machine several materials, it can be practical to keep more than one insert grade available.
