Wood planers for accurate stock preparation

A good wood planer helps you bring rough timber to consistent thickness, cleaner surfaces and repeatable dimensions. In this range you will find compact 230 V machines for smaller workshops, heavier 380 V models for regular professional use, and helical cutter versions for quieter running and improved finish quality.

How to choose the right planer

Start with the timber sizes you process most often. Smaller machines with a 330 mm planing width are a practical choice when you need a compact footprint, easy mobility and standard single-phase power. If you work with wider boards, larger batches or harder daily use, a 406–510 mm machine gives you more capacity and faster throughput.

Motor power and feed speed also matter. Lighter workshop use is well covered by 1500 W machines, while 2.2 kW and 5.5 kW models are better suited to demanding production and thicker stock removal. If your workshop has 380 V available, it opens up stronger options for continuous use and larger workpieces.

Straight knives or helical cutter

Straight-knife planers are a solid choice when you want simple, proven performance and straightforward blade replacement. They are well suited to general woodworking, dimensioning and everyday workshop tasks.

Helical cutter models are worth considering when surface quality, lower noise and easier insert changes are priorities. They are especially useful when planing difficult grain or when you want smoother results with less tear-out. In this range, helical options are available both in compact 330 mm format and in larger 510 mm professional machines.

Model differences in this range

For lighter-duty use, the NOVA 330 and NOVA 330H offer a 330 mm capacity in a compact format. The helical version is a good fit when you want quieter operation and a refined finish.

For wider stock and more demanding workloads, the NOVA MB-104 and NOVA MB-105 bring more capacity, stronger construction and higher output. If you need even more performance, the MB-105J Pro models offer 510 mm width and heavier-duty capability for professional workshops.

The MB-103.3 models add extra versatility for users who want a combined planer and shaping solution for decorative profiles and similar tasks.

Accessories, knives and workshop setup

A planer performs best when the full setup is in order. Dust extraction improves visibility, cleanliness and machine performance, especially during longer planing sessions. Roller stands and roller tables make it easier to support long boards, while measuring tools help you keep thickness settings accurate.

Replacement blades and helical cutter inserts are available for many models, which is important for maintaining finish quality over time. Sharpening support and spare parts also help keep the machine productive for long service life.
